Choosing a residential home

Most people get worried when thinking about going to live in a care home. You may be thinking about this for yourself or want to help someone else, such as your mother, father or a friend. It is an important decision to make, so you will want to be sure that it is the right thing to do. It may be that we can help you to stay at home instead.

The information below will answer some of your questions and explain how we can help you if you want us to.

Bettercaring is an online resource for the care home sector. It includes a fully searchable database of all 18,600 registered care homes in the UK.

The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) is the new independent inspectorate for all social care services in England. This includes the inspection and registration of care homes and home care services.

North Lincolnshire Social Services has trained staff who are available to go through all your options and help you make the right choice. If you would like to speak to someone about care homes or would just like more information you are welcome to contact one of the Adult Services Offices.

Counsel and Care produces the Complete Care Home Guide. This gives a range of information for those considering a move to a care home and those who actually live in a care home. There is also a brief Care Home Guide that covers all the main topics. The guides are available to download:
