What services are there for children in care?
The council provides a range of services to children in its care, including:
The Adoption and Fostering Service
This comprises a team of workers along with the adopters and foster carers recruited and supported by the services.
Children’s homes
These provide a homely and caring environment for children who cannot live at home but are not able to be fostered or adopted. This may be for short planned breaks and for most children is a temporary arrangement.
We do not advertise the location of these homes to protect the children who live there. If anyone has any enquiries about them contact the council on 01724 296500.
The Children in Care teams
These provide case management to children and young people in council care. The teams consist of workers who are responsible for ensuring that planning, support and services help children in care achieve the best possible success.
Who is it for?
We always seek to keep children at home or in a suitable alternative family where children feel safe and well cared for. Where this is not possible, some children may need to be cared for by the council.
What can you expect to happen?
When a child is cared for by the council, they will have a worker who will ensure everyone knows the arrangements for their care. They will make sure plans are in place and everyone knows who to contact. Children and parents can have access to these plans and other information held about them. Where possible, the child will continue in their existing school and plans will be made for contact with people important to the child.
