Safeguarding processes:

The Common Assessment Framework

The Common Assessment (CAF) is a national requirement for all agencies involved in providing services for children and families. It is an early assessment of need that is conducted in partnership with children and families by any professional who recognises that the child or family may have needs over and above those that can be met through one single agency. Performance and quality of the Common Assessment is monitored by the team and reported back to the Local Safeguarding Children's Board (LSCB) agencies.

Children with additional needs and children in need

These processessupport children and families that have additional needs identified via the CAF and who have a number of agencies involved with them. It also coordinates the plans and services for children who are deemed to be 'in need' because without services they would suffer impairment of their health, welfare or development. The quality of interventions and services is also monitored by the team and reported back to the LSCB.

Child protection

Child Protection plans are put together for children when they have suffered or are belived to be at risk of suffering significant harm. The purpose is to reduce the risk of harm, prevent further harm occurring, and reduce the impact of harm already suffered. This is done by providing a child protection conference system for professional agencies, children and families. The Child Protection team monitors and reviews all child protection plans ensuring that as far as possible the risks are managed to allow children to remain with their families where it is safe to do so.

The team contributes to the LSCB training programme and provides formal consultation and advice on child protection processes and complex safeguarding issues to all agencies and professionals. It also reports to the LSCB on quality and performance of child protection services across North Lincolnshire.

The team is managed by the Child Protection Coordinator for North Lincolnshire. You can contact her by email, at sarah.cresswell@northlincs
