Direct Payments
If you are an adult assessed as being eligible for care support, have a child with a disability with an assessed care need, or are a parent or carer of a child with disability with an assessed carers, then you have the option to arrange and manage this yourself instead of the council doing this on your behalf.
This is known as a Direct Payment and will give you the opportunity to have greater choice and control over any support you are assessed as needing by buying it yourself.
Being in control of the money for your care support means you can choose how you want your support to be delivered. It also means that as long as you spend the money on your assessed need you can use it flexibly. For example, if you want to change the times or days your care is provided to suit you.
North Lincolnshire Council is working together with Penderels Trust who offer support and advice on managing your direct payment. They also have a network of people who are already receiving these payments who can provide you with an additional guide.
Here's some quotes from people helped by Direct Payments:
"Looking after a young child with Downs Syndrome is hard work on your own. I have been receiving Direct Payments for almost a year now, It has been very good."
(Carer, Children and Young People's Service)
"...along came Direct Payments, which allowed me to employ my own staff. To say this has revolutionised my life is an understatement."
(Direct Payments service user, Adults Social Care)
