Adult social services

Adult social services works with:

What does the service do?

"Promoting independence - decreasing dependency"

Adult services is there to help you live as independently as you can. We will talk with you about what you need and then help you to get those needs met. If someone already cares for you at home we will want to work with them to meet your needs.

The council provides some of the services you need and others are bought in locally. These include local home care agencies and care homes.

We do have to charge for some of these services. We will tell you what they cost and help you to arrange payment if you want us to. You may also like to consider using Direct Payments to manage your services.

Adult social services can help you in a number of ways including:

  • Equipment to help you manage at home
  • Someone to help you get up in the morning and go to bed at night
  • A hot meal during the day
  • Somewhere to go during the day to meet other people and learn new skills
  • Short breaks away from home overnight
  • A new and more suitable place to live
  • Specialist help with sight, hearing and learning difficulties.

In addition, Supporting People is a service that provides the housing related support that some people need to live independently.

The council works hard to make sure that the quality of your care is good whoever provides it. If you have any problems you can contact the quality development manager.
