PR 3139
North Lincolnshire Council has been given the green light to proceed with its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme – worth over £80m.
The project will see all seven secondary schools in Scunthorpe transformed through a combination of new buildings and refurbishing existing ones.
The Government has formally approved the council’s Outline Business Case. This sets out plans for each of the Scunthorpe secondary schools’ new buildings, and the ICT equipment they will use.
Once work is finished on transforming Scunthorpe schools, detailed planning work will start on the second wave of BSF for the remaining seven secondary schools across North Lincolnshire.
Ade Williamson, BSF project director, said:
"This is great news for the BSF project. It is the culmination of a lot of effort from councillors, officers and schools. All are committed to providing world-class educational facilities for young people in the areas."
Cllr Tony Gosling, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:
"This is the biggest single capital investment the council has ever made.
It is the first wave of a commitment to rebuild all secondary schools in North
Lincolnshire. We are working closely with the Government to ensure that the
investment fully realises the objectives for BSF, to give our young people
better facilities and greater opportunities".
