Council hits back at mindless attack (5 October 2006)

PR 2696

North Lincolnshire Council’s StreetRight is appealing for witnesses to come forward to help catch vandals who covered the Railway Bridge on Brigg Road (near Corus) with spray paint.

The offence took place between 4pm on Tuesday 3 October and 8.30am on Wednesday 4 October.

It took officers three hours to clean the graffiti at a cost of around £120.

StreetRight is the council’s response to enviro-crime. It deals with offences of littering, graffiti, flytipping, abandoned vehicles, fly posting, dog fouling, and stray dogs.

Anyone who witnessed the incident last night, should contact StreetRight on 01724 297000.

Cllr Arthur Bunyan, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said:

"I am appalled at the behaviour of these mindless vandals. Someone, somewhere must have seen this happen. Brigg Road is a very busy road and the Railway Bridge is in an open area close to the junction of Station Road and Corus.

"StreetRight does a fantastic job in helping clamp down on enviro-crime. But it is crucial that we receive residents’ support to help us catch offenders.

"I urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact StreetRight on 01724 297000."
