North Lincolnshire closer to £15m entertainment venue (27 June 2008)

PR 3552

Work to build a new £15m iconic entertainment venue in North Lincolnshire is moving at great pace, with asbestos removal and demolition works starting on Monday 30 June.

The works will clear the site of all buildings except the original 1930s front that faces onto Doncaster Road in Scunthorpe. This part of the building is to be retained and incorporated into the new entertainment venue.

All suitable parts of the demolished buildings will be crushed and re-used on the site to fill the two former swimming pool areas.

Following a tender process the council appointed DJ Broady Ltd as principal contractor to carry out this work.

Immediately following this stage, work will commence on-site to remove contamination as a result of the sites former use as a gas works.

Cllr Mark Kirk, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

"The project is really making progress. Not only does asbestos removal begin on Monday but design work is also moving forward.

"It is exciting to witness the Baths Hall developing and changing into the unique entertainment venue the council is committed to providing for the area.

"The new venue will cater for all audiences and will be a venue that residents of North Lincolnshire can be proud of."
