Council recycles bricks of former youth centre (22 January 2008)

PR 3348

North Lincolnshire Council is taking its environment responsibility seriously and recycling the bricks of the former Youth Centre on Doncaster Road in Scunthorpe.

All clean bricks and concrete waste material will be sent to a quarry for crushing and reused as aggregate.

Leader Cllr Mark Kirk today witnessed the last bit of the Youth Centre being demolished to make way for a new and exciting entertainment venue to replace the old Baths Hall.

The council has already received a record response to an on-line survey asking people what they would like to see at the new venue. To date 770 people have responded. And it’s not too late to respond. People have until Monday 4 February 2008 to fill in the survey.

Cllr Mark Kirk, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

"I am pleased that this council is taking its environmental responsibility seriously. By recycling the bricks, we are helping reduce our carbon footprint and putting old material to good use.

"Now that we have finished demolishing the youth centre, we can press ahead with plans to turn the former Baths Hall site into an iconic venue that is fit for the 21st century.

"It’s not too late to have your say on plans for a new entertainment venue. You have until Monday 4 February to fill in our on-line survey."
