The exhibition ‘Storybored’ by Barton based artist Marc Renshaw is now open at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.
The art in the exhibition has little in common with the paintings people normally find in art galleries. It has more in common with doodles and scribbles in the margins of exercise books and phone directories.
Marc is interested in the everyday things that people overlook. He draws the things around him and then brings them to life. Sometimes they are combined with computer drawings and a host of odd animals and people. Inanimate objects such as toilets and plants, factories and shops become characters in his unique view of the world.
Despite the works amateurish appearance, on closer inspection it is intelligent, funny and imaginative.
Cllr Christine O’Sullivan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said:
"This is a unique and interesting exhibition by an extremely talented local
artist. I am sure the drawings will be popular with visitors both young and
old.
"This is a great display to see firsthand. Entry is free and the centre is
open Tuesday to Saturday."
Marc Renshaw said:
"My work is about sitting around doing doodles when the mood takes… my Peugeot
205 pulls up at industrial areas and business parks, mainly in northern England,
and I sit, sketch think and yawn."
For more information please contact the centre on 01724 297070, or call into the 20-21 reception.
The ‘Storybored’ Exhibition runs from Saturday 19 January to Saturday 5 April.
