PR 4281
A trip to Nebraska, USA, beckons for two North Lincolnshire Council Highways Alliance Partnership apprentices.
Civil engineering apprentices Sam Cross and Brindley Axe won places on the once in a lifetime trip through North Lindsey College.
Sam Cross, 17, lives in Scunthorpe and Brindley, 19, lives in the Isle of Axholme.
They will stay at Nebraska’s Mid Plains Community College in April and gain a first hand insight into some of the USA’s most innovative and successful engineering projects.
The visit has been organised through the International Learner Exchange programme and all North Lindsey College’s second year construction and engineering students were invited to apply.
The Highways Alliance is a joint partnership between North Lincolnshire Council, Clugston Construction and Pell Frischmann.
Cllr Bernard Regan, cabinet member for highways and planning, said:
“The council and its partners Clugston Construction and Pell Frischmann congratulate Sam and Brindley on their success. It’s very exciting to think two of our apprentices will be visiting the USA and sharing their knowledge of what we do with students over there.”
Geoff Popple, head of highways and planning at North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“There was nothing like this in my day as an apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity, both for learning and life experience, and I hope Sam and Brindley will grab it with both hands. I look forward to their return to share what they have learned and see how they got on. I hope they take plenty of photos.”
