South Leys head lands major role in shaping future of education in North Lincolnshire (5 February 2007)

PR 2857

Kevin Moloney has been appointed to a newly-created role with North Lincolnshire Council, which will have a major impact on how young people learn in the future.

This innovative post of Consultant Headteacher BSF and Community Development will provide additional strategic leadership capacity to help the council take forward the £80m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Project. It will also develop a consistent plan for Community Development to support the process. Kevin is currently the head of South Leys Business and Enterprise College and he will take up his new post from September this year.

The council sees the Consultant Head role as vital to the success of the Building Schools for the Future Programme. BSF is about more than bricks and mortar and the refurbishment and rebuilding of our schools it is also about the transformation of learning. In our developing technological society we need to equip our current and future learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to meet the demands of our changing world. This new role will support the secondary headteachers achieve this collaborative transformation of learning and help shape the future of education in North Lincolnshire. This exciting challenge will include additional professional development opportunities for teachers and school support staff in order for them to meet the demands of this transformation. Kevin will work with the headteachers of the schools to co-develop the change management process to enable teachers and school support staff to access appropriate and relevant professional development. This will help ensure that the benefits of the £80m investment are realised.

Another key element of the Consultant Head's role is to work with local communities to support community development, cohesion and engagement with the BSF process and philosophy. This role will encompass the support of all communities, with an initial focus on the two communities of the schools that are to merge. As the current headteacher of one of these schools, Kevin already has very strong links with his community.

Commenting on his new role, Kevin said:

"I am delighted that I have been appointed as the Consultant Head. It is an innovative and challenging role which will have a positive impact on the BSF Project. I am really looking forward to the challenge of working alongside other respected educational leaders in shaping the current and future secondary education of North Lincolnshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue to offer my experience and passion for education within framework of North Lincolnshire’s current and future educational aspirations."

"Of course it will be sad to leave my current role as Headteacher of South Leys Business and Enterprise College, a school that I have been Headteacher for seven years and taught in for 32 years. The school has a loyal and dedicated staff team and has developed very strong community links and extended school services and these will be important elements when the schools merge. Within this new role, I will have the opportunity to continue to work with the staff and community of my current school, the staff and communities of Thomas Sumpter School and the other secondary schools and communities in North Lincolnshire.

Cllr Margaret Sidell, North Lincolnshire Council's Cabinet Member for Education, added:

"Kevin is a first-rate appointment to this vital role. The £80m BSF project is the biggestinvestment in education for a generation. As a council and an area, we need to make sure we get the project right. Kevin will play a key role in this.

"His record of achievement, support of the community, and excellent track record in education means he can work with local schools and communities to make sure education in North Lincolnshire is transformed".
