Council takes next step in £80m project to develop schools (18 December 2007)

PR 3308

North Lincolnshire Council has announced the results of the first round in the process to select a partner for its £80m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme.

The successful partner will undertake the construction and equipping of seven schools in Scunthorpe. The BSF scheme will transform the schools through a combination of developing new buildings and refurbishing existing ones.

The first stage of the selection involved bidders completing a questionnaire, setting out their suitability to do the construction and equipping of the schools. Following evaluations by a team of specialists, three groups were selected to be taken forward to the next stage of the process. These are:

  • C² Partnership – made up of Clugston Construction Limited and Civica PLC for ICT, with Watson Batty for design
  • Generation Education North Lincolnshire – made up of Sewell Group PLC, Geo Houlton & Sons Ltd, Ergo Computing (UK) Ltd
  • May Gurney Consortium – made up of May Gurney Ltd, Hall Construction Group and MASS Consultants Ltd.

During the next round of the selection process, each of the bidders will develop ideas for how it feels the BSF scheme would be best delivered. A team of specialists and representatives involved in the scheme will then evaluate these ideas.

The successful group will be announced in autumn 2008.

Cllr Tony Gosling, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:

"It’s fantastic that the scheme has attracted a high level interest from potential partners. This tells us that the industry thinks our plans are well developed and a partnership with the council is attractive to them.

"The three bidders that have reached the next stage are of a very high standard and are competing in a thorough selection process. The various stages allow the council to ensure that the best partnership is formed.

"The Building Schools for the Future scheme is a great opportunity for all of the schools involved, it will transform the way that children learn today."
