Major progress in car park demolition

North Lincolnshire library in Scunthorpe town centre is now open for business following a temporary seven week closure.

It was temporarily closed to enable the Carlton Street multi storey car park in Scunthorpe to be demolished.

Actual demolition work has finished and work to clear the site and tidy the area up has started.

While no firm decisions have been made about the future of the site, the council has previously made clear that it will be used as a prime development site.

As a temporary measure, until a decision on its future is made, the area will be grassed over to make it look more attractive.

The council has agreed to reinstate the Foundry Arms pub that adjoined the car park, subject to the terms of the lease.

Simon Driver, Chief Executive at North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“The car park had to be demolished for safety reasons.  This work is now complete and we will open the library from Monday (9 January) where it will be business as usual.

“We will also reinstate the pub and continue our dialogue with affected parties, subject to the terms of the lease.”
