Brigg

Brigg first grew up as a crossing point on the River Ancholme and takes its name from the bridge that was constructed to make east-west journeys across North Lincolnshire much easier.

It has a colourful history of markets and fairs and is today a thriving market town with a variety of events.

Although expanding, the town still retains its traditional, friendly image.

The shopping area runs from Bridge Street to Queen Street, with old courts and yards, which run off it, containing a collection of specialist shops. Thursdays see the town’s market, which dates from a charter granted in 1204, take over the Market Place and spill along the whole length of Wrawby Street. The town is alive with bustle as people from surrounding villages buy fresh local produce from stallholders. A smaller market takes place on a Saturday.

The Market Place is the venue for regular outdoor live music and arts festivals. Brigg’s many pubs offer a warm welcome and a chance to sample local flavour. After a refreshing pint or delicious meal, you can enjoy a walk along the tranquil River Ancholme, with its rich flora and wildlife.

Brigg is also home to a Farmers' Market held on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Brigg has an award winning Tourist Information Centre, in the historic Buttercross, selling a wide range of local souvenirs.
