St Peter's Church, Barton Upon Humber

With a history spanning over a millenium, St Peter's is one of the most studied parish churches in England. The church features a remarkably complete Anglo-Saxon tower and baptistry, dating mainly from the 10th century. There is also a large medieval nave and chancel that displays a range of architectural styles.

Following major restoration works, 2007 saw the opening of a new interactive exhibition that offers the visitor a greater understanding of this significant church and the archaeological information that it has produced.

The new displays chart over 900 years of burials at the site and give as yet unprecedented insights into medieval diseases and diet as well as medical and burial practices. With over 2,800 burials on the site over this period remarkable discoveries have been made that help to reconstruct individual lives.

As you move around the exhibits see the effects of diseases such as arthritis and polio on skeletons and bones. A great exhibition for all the family.
