Midge Ure
An
artist who has received Ivor Novello, Grammy, BASCAP awards along with a flotilla
of gold and platinum records, really needs very little introduction.
Musical
success is seldom measured in time spans of more than a few years, if not Andy
Warhol's often quoted fifteen minutes, so the fact that by when Midge's single
"If I Was" went to No1 in 1985, he had already crammed several musical lifetimes
into a 10 year professional career, speaks volumes - Slik, The Rich Kids, Thin
Lizzy, Visage, Ultravox and of course the most famous one off group in musical
history; Band Aid had by then all had the guiding hand of his musical navigation.
He
then went on to be executive producer for the Band Aid 20 single working with
the likes of Paul McCartney, Joss Stone and Fran Healey.

Teechers
Written
and directed by John Godber
Remember
your school days? The dreaded detentions, soggy semolina, snogging behind the
bike sheds and breaktime bust-ups?! Well prepare to be catapulted back to the
classroom and take a raw and riotous look at life in a typical British school,
in this classic comedy from BAFTA winner John Godber.
Meet
the staff; the trendy young drama teacher making his shaky debut, the deputy
head who rules the school with an iron rod, the gentle humanities teacher who
is desperate for a quiet life, Doug, the grumpy old caretaker, and the headmistress
– a boisterous battleaxe and some-time amateur dramatics star. And prepare
yourselves for the pupils; a
wayward mob of disruptive delinquents - determined to wreck havoc, hormones
and horror throughout the school.

Scunthorpe Gilbert and Sullivan Society
Yeomen of the Guard*
Set
in the Tower of London in the 16th century,
this is the darkest and perhaps most emotionally engaging of the savoy operas,
ending with a broken-hearted main character and two very reluctant engagements,
rather than the usual numerous marriages. Gilbert’s pointed satire and
punning one-liners abound, there are plenty of topsy-turvy plot complications,
and many believe that the score is Sullivan’s finest.
Tickets:
£11, concessions: £10 (Tuesday evening and Saturday matinee only).

‘One
of the sharpest comedians on the circuit’ - The Guardian
‘Hilarious,
detailed, gently self-depreciating act from a stand-up comic in complete control’
- The Independent
‘One
minute lewd, the next blimpish, the next acerbic, he is always one step wide
of insult and one ahead of expectation’ - The Financial Times
