Escape the stresses of everyday life in 300 acres of parkland and woodland. Stroll through the woodland following one of the trails available in our information centre. Experience the changing seasons from carpets of snowdrops and daffodils in spring to spectacular rhododendrons in summer and glorious leaf colour in autumn.
The woodland contains superb mature beeches, oaks and sweet chestnuts. There are also more unusual species like the Tulip Tree and the Handkerchief Tree. Closer to the hall is a magnificent Evergreen or Holm Oak, Quercus ilex. The tree is a rarity this far north and its lower branches are worn smooth by the generations of children playing on it. You'll also find dozens of species of birds, butterflies and wild flowers in the woodland, along with squirrels. And in autumn, unusual and bizarre types of fungi.
Extend your trail to walk through the deer park, where herds of Red and Fallow Deer roam freely. They can be seen close to the Hall at most times of the year. Look out for many of the park's original features such as the ice house, Victorian laundry, coach house and stables.
Relax and enjoy refreshments in the tearoom where delicious lunches, snacks and homemade cakes are served.
Visit our gift shop with its stock of high quality gifts, souvenirs and produce fresh from the Victorian Walled Garden.
Children's Adventures
The adventure playground provides hours of fun for children and all the family will enjoy making friends with the ducks and peacocks. Relax while the children play and enjoy a family picnic on the impressive lawns. Watch the antics of the ducks on the ponds and marvel at the peacocks’ impressive plumage during their seasonal mating display.
On most Sundays throughout the summer, the miniature railway is an added attraction. Enjoy a ride around the newly extended trackway. There are also regular 'crafty kids' activities in the Farm Museum on Sundays during the summer season. There is a range of other special events including Children's Day on August Bank Holiday Monday.
The park is open all year round from 9am until dusk. Dogs are welcome in the park as long as they are controlled and on a leash. The majority of the park is accessible to all visitors.
