Normanby Hall events programme 2009

*Any activity marked with an asterisk can only accommodate a limited number of people. Places can be booked in advance by telephone Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm 01724 720588. Bookings are only confirmed when payment has been received.

The number in brackets, for example (30), indicates the number of people that can be accommodated.

July

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July

Free train ride weekend - 1pm to 3.30pm. Hosted by Scunthorpe Model Engineers (donations accepted).

Sunday 12 July

Humberside Police concert band - 1.30pm to 4.30pm. The first of our summer season of 'Concerts in the Park'. Bring a picnic and enjoy a lovely afternoon relaxing with the family.

Sunday 19 July

Barrow Concert Band - Concert in the Park 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Bug hunt* 2pm to 3.30pm. Meet at the Gift Shop. Discover where insects and mini beasts live in the park. £3 - does not include park admission. (20)

Sunday 26 July

Classic and vintage cars. 10.30am to 4.30pm. All marques welcome by the Lincolnshire Austin A30/A35 Owners Club.

Concert in the Park - 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Markham Main Band.

August

Sunday 2 August

Ashby Salvation Army Band. 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Concert in the Park.

Deer* 2pm. Walk around the deer park with a ranger and learn about deer in Britain. £3 does not include park admission. Meet at the gift shop. (30)

Thursday 6 August

Courtyard concert 7.30pm. The Lazy Alligators bring New Orleans jazz style to Normanby. £5. Tickets available from Brigg TIC, Normanby Gift Shop or call 01469 530561.

Sunday 9 August

Summer fair 10.30am to 4.30pm. Come and take a stroll around the many craft stalls on display within the park, with something for everyone, including traditional fun fair rides and crafty kids activities.

Woodhouse Prize Brass Band 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Concert in the Park.

Monday 10 August

Tree-mendous Trees* 1pm. Meet at the gift shop. Join a ranger and learn and discover some strange and intriguing facts about Normanby's trees. £3 - does not include park admission. (30)

Sunday 16 August

Barton Town Band. 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Concert in the Park.

Sunday 23 August

North Lincolnshire Community Concert Band. 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Concert in the Park.

Wednesday 26 August

The Face of Nature 1pm to 3pm. Drop in at the park education rooms. A great event for kids to make face masks using natures own materials to really blend in with your surroundings!

Friday 28 August

Batty about Bats* 8pm. Join an expert to learn all about these misunderstood nocturnal creatures. Hear them using professional equipment, and if you're lucky, you may even spot one! Meet main in the car park £5. (30)

Sunday 30 August

Ancholme River Jazz Band. 1.30pm and 4.30pm. Concert in the Park.

Monday 31 August

Children's Day 1pm to 4.30pm. Stimulating family fun with exciting drop in workshops, quizzes, trails and traditional fun fair rides.

September

Friday 4 September

An Evening with the Housekeeper* 7pm to 9.30pm. Enter via the main gates, park in front of the Regency Hall and join the housekeeper for a welcome drink and a special tour. £11.50 includes a light supper. Telephone bookings only. (25)

Wednesday 9 September

RHS Special Event: an annual event* 2pm. Annuals are the fireworks of the plant world and they can add sparkle to the garden for months on end. Discover some fascinating and unusual species and how to grow and use them in the garden. £9.95 (RHS members £7.95) book in advance with RHS ticket hotline 08456 121253. (30)

Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September

Stationary and Miniature Traction Engine Rally 10am to 4.30pm. A great day out for the family.

Sunday 27 September

Apple day 1pm to 4.30pm. A celebration of the apple, with apple identification, apple tasting, hints on growing, training and pruning, odd facts and lots more. Displays by the Northern Fruit Group and children's activities. Trees for sale.

October

Saturday 17 October

Fungus Foray* 1pm. A unique opportunity to learn about natures great recyclers with leading expert Ray Halstead. These mysterious and beautiful organisms will be on full display at this time of year. £5 (does not include park admission) - meet at the gift shop. (30)

Friday 23 October

Starry Starry Night* 7.30pm. A rare opportunity to celebrate the international year of astronomy with one of the country's leading experts, Paul Money. Look at the stars through professional equipment as the mysteries of the universe are revealed. Warm soup provided. £5 Meet in the main car park. (40)

Sunday 25 October

Pumpkin Day. 1pm to 3pm. See the wonderful display of pumpkins and gourds in the spooky Farm Museum. Enter our competition for the biggest home grown pumpkin and, for children only, a competition for the best decorated pumpkin. Competitions judged at 2.30pm.

Monday 26 to Friday 30 October

Halloween half term. 1pm to 3pm daily. Why not bring the kids to visit the spooky Farm Museum during half term, and enjoy the 'crafty kids' activities?

Saturday 31 October

Halloween trick or treat in the Spooky Farm Museum. 1pm to 3pm. Bring the kids in fancy dress with their lanterns and enter our free fancy dress competitions for the under and over fives, plus crafty kids activities. All kids in fancy dress will receive a treat. Competitions judged at 2.30pm.

Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November

Normanby Country House Antiques Fair. A great day out for antique lovers in the elegant Regency Hall, which hosted the BBC's Antiques Road Show in 2005. Private viewing 9am to 10am each day. Open to the public 10am to 4.30pm each day. Free car parking, entrance fee: Trade £4, public £2.

November

Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November

Normanby Christmas Fair. 10.30am to 4pm. In the atmospheric Farm Museum with a brass band playing carols. Great for craft lovers and Christmas shoppers looking for special and unusual Christmas gifts and Santa will be there too!

December

Experience the build up to Christmas at Normanby Hall. Santa specials for play groups, Santa's Grotto, Christmas parties, dinners, lunches and tours of the hall and gardens.
