If you want to use the library internet and IT facilities you must agree to abide by our internet policy. This policy states that:
You must:
- Abide by the library system for booking and using our IT and Internet facilities
- Ask a member of staff if more than one person wants to use a terminal at the same time
- Pay any charges for using library computers.
You must NOT:
- Create, access, copy, store, transmit or publish any material via the internet which:
- is obscene, pornographic, racist, defamatory or illegal
- causes harassment or offence to other users or staff
- breaches copyright regulations.
- Download or install any software onto library computers
- Use library computers to receive real-time television broadcasts
- Attempt to alter system settings
- Damage library equipment in any way
- Connect any external hardware, other than USB storage devices, to library computers.
You should note that:
- Giving out personal details over the internet is done at your own risk
- The council can take no responsibility for the security of any financial transactions that you undertake via the internet
- The council can take no responsibility for the accuracy and currency of information that you find on the internet
- The council can accept no responsibility for damage to, or loss from, devices that have been connected to library computers
- A filtering system is in place to restrict access to some types of websites; if you find that the system restricts access to legitimate sites please refer the issue to a member of staff
- We reserve the right to monitor your computer use and we may share this information with the Police to assist in the prevention and detection of crime.
Please note: Library staff reserve the right to suspend your access to IT facilities. This will happen if you continue to misuse library IT equipment or resources after staff have warned you not to do so.
