Read yourself well

The 'Read Yourself Well' project is a joint scheme run by North Lincolnshire Libraries, the Primary Care Trust (PCT), and Poeisis.

It began in 2005.  Doctors and mental health workers would 'prescribe' a book to people who consulted them about a common mental health problem, which could then be picked up from their local library. These health problems included anxiety, eating disorders and depression.

There is currently no prescription service, but we still hold collections of all 'core' texts at several North Lincolnshire libraries.  We also stock many other titles in support of mental health problems on our general shelves.

The PCT also run 'Read Yourself Well' drop-in sessions at North Lincolnshire Central Library.  Mental health workers are available to answer questions and provide self help books, materials and IT, and you can expect a confidential and supportive environment.

For details about when these sessions may be happening next, please contact library.enquiries@northlincs.gov.uk.

You can also find a list of books on our catalogue which have been recommended as further reading.

For further details about the scheme, please contact Janet Stopper on 01724 860161 or email library.enquiries@northlincs.gov.uk.
