These figures are taken from the Censuses carried out every ten years since 1801. (Please note that owing to the Second World War there was no census carried out in 1941).

Barton on Humber has associations with Chad Varah, the founder of the Samaritans. Isaac Pitman, the inventor of shorthand and Henry Treece, the well known children's author, were at one time teachers in the town.

Family Historians might also wish to check our list of Parish Registers and Census Return holdings.
