Ashby is a large village and township, in the parish of Bottesford, Northern division of the county, parts of Lindsey, east division of Manley wapentake, Winterton petty sessional division, Glanford Brigg union, Brigg county court district, 2 miles from Frodingham station, 7 west-by-north from Brigg, on the direct road to Burringham Ferry, and 170 from London. There is a national school at Bottesford one mile distant. The Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists have each a chapel here. Here is a library and reading-room. To the west is a duck decoy. J. B. Skipworth, esq., is lord of the manor. The soil is sand ; subsoil, lias with ironstone. The chief crops are wheat, barley and turnips. The area is included in Bottesford parish, and the population in 1871 was 669.
