Local news

The library holds backfiles of several newspapers. These cover the local and regional area. There are bound copies of some of the newspapers, but the majority are on microfilm. This makes them easier to access. It also ensures that the more fragile bound copies are preserved.

Four microfilm reading machines are available to view the newspapers. Three of these provides printing facilities (there is a charge of 40p per A4 sheet). Our microfilm readers are well used, so please telephone us on 01724 860161 to book a machine before your visit.

We have a surname index for the Star series of newspapers. The index is available on request. It covers the circulation period 1890 to 1950. We also have subject indexes for the Scunthorpe Telegraph and Epworth Bells. These start from 1996.
