Library fines

Fines are charged for each item overdue.

  • Fines are 13p per open day
  • Maximum fine: £5 per item
  • Overdue notifications (printed): 65p
  • Overdue notifications (email): free

Exemptions from fines only are:

  • Senior citizens (60 years and over)
  • Children and young adults (up to 18 years)
  • Recipients of state benefit (Jobseekers Allowance or Income Support)
  • Mobile library users
  • Registered blind and print disabled
  • Users of the Home Library Service.

Note: We send the first overdue notice when the items are 15 days overdue. If you do not return them we will send a second overdue notice when they are 39 days overdue. There are no exemptions for overdue notice charges.

If you still do not return the items we will instigate the legal action process. This could ultimately end in you being taken to court in order to recover the items or money to cover their replacement.

If you have a problem returning items you have borrowed from your local library please do not hesitate to contact the library staff. They will do their best to resolve any problems. Alternatively you can contact one of our senior librarians at North Lincolnshire Central Library on 01724 860161, or email library.enquiries@northlincs.gov.uk
