Family history

If you are interested in family history and think your ancestors may have come from the North Lincolnshire area, the local studies section has several resources which can assist your research:

  • The 1901 Census.
  • Census returns (1841-1901).
  • IGI (The International Genealogical Index for Great Britain), which is available on microfiche.
  • Online subscription to The Genealogist website.
  • Local newspapers.
  • Local trade directories.
  • Parish registers.

The internet is a great place for family historians to locate information. To help people new to this field we have put together a number of lists of websites we have found particularly useful.

Local and family history enquiries are welcome by letter, phone (01724 860161), or by using our online enquiry form.

If you are planning to visit the library in person you are advised to book microfilm readers in advance.

New - We now have surname indexes for the Isle of Axholme parish registers.

To see what happens when you start researching your family tree, why not read about Stacey's Search. And to find out about searching for local graves visit our burials page.
