The first part of the role is finding out where, why and for whom the problems exist. This work is not currently carried out. The evidence base is not drawn together so existing data needs coordinating. We'll also need to go out and talk to people.
Other tasks involve challenging the design of e-services. These services must be fit for all of North Lincolnshire's diverse communities. The challenge will take place within established processes. It will take account of accredited accessibility standards.
There will also be a lot of project work. This involves building on current successes with community groups. It will also need fresh approaches and innovations. These are needed to keep pace with the rapidly changing Information Computer Technology (ICT) environment. Marketing and promoting the benefits of ICT to excluded groups will be critical.
More managed use of the People's Network will also help. There are almost 100 People's Network computer terminals in North Lincolnshire's libraries. This number will increase in 2006 / 07. The council's Library and Information services are also relevant in terms of the profile information that is gathered around North Lincolnshire's communities. The mapping of ICT exclusion will fit into that bigger picture. These activities are all community-focused.
