Children's services
Welcome to our young people's page.
All local libraries stock a wide variety of books for children and young people of all ages.
There are stories of all kinds, rhymes and poetry, and factual books on just about every subject you can imagine.
- For the very young there's a wide range of board books and picture books. Many of these are available in other languages, including Bengali, Urdu and Somali.
- Beginner readers will find a wide variety of easy to read books (identified by yellow spots) - look out for series like Banana Books, Cartwheels and Jets.
- Fluent readers are spoilt for choice - there are stories to suit all tastes - from the classics, to new novels from the best of today's children's authors, to popular series such as Animal Ark.
- Older readers will find a brilliant selection of books in our teenage section. All your favourite series are here - Point Horror, X-Files and Animorphs, together with graphic novels and short stories.
- Each library has an extensive range of non-fiction books which will help with your homework and with your interests and hobbies too. Of course, you may just want to read them for pleasure - it's amazing what you can find out just through browsing.
- Don't forget our poetry books - this is one of our most popular sections - mainly because children's poetry is such good fun.
Library staff are always happy to help you find your favourite authors and books, and will try to answer any questions you may have - so don't be afraid to ask.
There are plenty of activities and promotions for children and young people in our local libraries.
We have also collected together some of our favourite websites which children and young people might find useful.
