Queen Street School

Queen Street School is the only school in England designed in collaboration with Samuel Wilderspin - where he taught and the school remains intact.

The Queen Street School Preservation Trust has been set up to repair and renovate the long disused Queen Street School and to find a sustainable use for the building. The trust's work is now well advanced, and restoration of the school should start at the begining of 2007. It should be completed by September of that year.

The Preservation Trust aims to restore the school, which will include a re-creation of Wilderspin’s infant schoolroom and playground, a late-Victorian classroom and sustainable uses for the rest of the building. Potts, Parry, Ives & Young Architects from York have been employed to progress the project.

The trust would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in helping to fund the project, either through sponsorship, donation or grants.

A short history of the school, a summary of its historical importance and the details of the aim of the Preservation Trust can be found in the Conservation Plan.

For more details on the project please contact Ian Wolseley, Chairman of Queen Street School Preservation Trust at TheWolseleys@aol.com or phone 01652 632928.
