Landscape Character Assessment

We can better analyse, describe and classify the landscape by way of a Landscape Character Assessment (LCA).

To help us understand a landscape better, we should identify those aspects that contribute most to its character.

We can develop ideas for conserving and managing the landscape. We do this by thinking about the issues.

LCAs can help us to create planning policies. They also help us to allocate land for development and assist us with processes such as environmental assessment.

You can find more information about Landscape Character Assessments on the Natural England website.

Or you can contact the council's Environment Team.
