Halima Cassell is widely regarded as one of the UK's leading young talents. Her work has been commissioned by municipal collections throughout the UK, including a major new piece for the new Hepworth Art Centre in Wakefield. In 2007, Halima travelled to the far east as an invited guest to the fourth World Biennial of Contemporary Ceramics in South Korea, followed by residencies in Japan and Pakistan. Her most recent work explores new material, non-geometric forms and a dialogue between her sculpture and ecclesiastical art and architecture.
With the support of a grant from Arts Council England, Halima spent 12 weeks working at 20-21 during the summer of 2008, to create a new body of work influenced by the neo-gothic architecture of the former St John's Church building.
'Dreams Made Manifest' is Halima's largest and most ambitious exhibition to date and includes work of different materials, scales and approaches whilst still incorporating the lines, curves, facets and planes that make it unmistakably hers.
