Handyman Scheme

One community united against crime

Have you been a victim of burglary? Are you concerned about home security? Are you worried about the threat of being a victim?

If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes', we may be able to help you.

How can the One Community project help?

The One Community project can fit additional security measures to your home free of charge.

Who can apply?

The project is available to all residents of North Lincolnshire who have been victims of burglary.

What sort of work is eligible?

The installation of a range of security measures, including:

  • window locks
  • door locks
  • security bolts
  • door chains
  • eye viewers
  • kick panels.

Who will carry out the work?

The scheme employs three handymen who do all the work.

Who runs the One Community project?

One Community is a partnership between North Lincolnshire Council and Humberside Police.

Who pays for the work?

The work is funded by the partnership and the scheme is free to local residents.

Progress report

Last year, the council's handyman scheme dealt with:

  • 1275 referrals from Social Services for council housing (of these, 13 were door entry systems)
  • 1800 Social Services referrals for private houses
  • 1275 referrals from the police for target hardening
  • 264 referrals for key safes
  • 720 ROSPA referrals

This totals 5,334 referrals.

What's next?

The Gardening Cut Back Scheme.

Are you having difficulty managing your garden?

The council's handyman scheme is now providing a gardening service. This is for elderly and disabled people. The charge for this service is £10 per half hour and £17.50 per hour.

The cost is for one handyman to cut and trim your lawn(s).

More gardening services will be provided too, such as cutting back shrubs. However, any extra work will be charged at the half hourly rate.
