Homelessness

The council aims to provide a comprehensive housing advice service to anyone experiencing housing problems.

You can contact the council for housing advice by:

If the council is unable to deal with your enquiry it will refer you to another agency that can help.

The council aims to stop people becoming homeless whenever possible by:

  • providing effective housing advice
  • using a wide range of measures to prevent homelessness
  • helping people to find other accommodation.

In many situations where homelessness is a possiblity, getting early advice and help is essential. Anyone in this position should contact the council as soon as possible.

If homelessness cannot be prevented, the council will:

  • assess the person's entitlement to be housed as homeless
  • find accommodation for those entitled to it
  • provide advice and help to those not entitled to be housed.
