The council aims to provide a comprehensive housing advice service to anyone experiencing housing problems.

If the council is unable to deal with your enquiry it will refer you to another agency that can help.
The council aims to stop people becoming homeless whenever possible by:
- providing effective housing advice
- using a wide range of measures to prevent homelessness
- helping people to find other accommodation.
In many situations where homelessness is a possiblity, getting early advice and help is essential. Anyone in this position should contact the council as soon as possible.
If homelessness cannot be prevented, the council will:
- assess the person's entitlement to be housed as homeless
- find accommodation for those entitled to it
- provide advice and help to those not entitled to be housed.
