The Northern Lincolnshire Rural Housing Enabler Project is a partnership between North and North East Lincolnshire Councils, the Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council, Defra and local housing associations.
The Rural Housing Enabler Project works with local groups and other partners to increase the supply of affordable housing in rural communities where it is needed. This is in an attempt to help local people on modest incomes stay in their own villages rather than being forced away by high house prices.
What is the role of the Rural Housing Enabler?
- Carry out parish-wide housing needs surveys to investigate local needs
- Work with the local community, parish councils and other organisations such as housing associations and the council's housing and planning departments to explore development options to meet identified needs
- Promote the value of affordable housing as a means of securing sustainable rural communities;
- Influence future policy
- Act as an honest broker between all parties.
The steps towards a successful Rural Housing Scheme are:
- Talk to the local community
- Assess the housing need
- Identify a potential site
- Consult the community
- Select the right developer
- Secure funding
- Obtain planning permission
- Build the homes
- Identify tenants.
There are currently a number of projects underway in North Lincolnshire
These include:
- Mill View Close, Epworth
- Land adjacent to Lime Grove Goxhill
- Land off Holme Road, Westwoodside; and
- Bagsby Road, Owston Ferry.
