North Lincolnshire Council's Housing Advice Team (HAT) aims to stop people becoming homeless whenever possible and will make every attempt to help people keep their current home by offering advice and practical help to people who:
- Are homeless
- Are threatened with homelessness
- Have other housing problems.
To help, the team can:
- Provide effective housing advice
- Use a wide range of measures to prevent homelessness
- Help people find other accommodation
- Contact landlords where necessary
- Arrange mediation if appropriate
- Talk to benefits or simply speak to family and friends
- Advise on tenant's rights and responsibilities.
In many situations where homelessness is a possibility, getting early advice and help is essential. If you find yourself in this position the sooner you contact us the better.
If homelessness cannot be prevented, the Housing Advice Team will:
- Assess the person's entitlement to be housed as homeless
- Find accommodation for those entitled to it
- Provide advice and help to those not entitled to be housed.
