Clinical waste

Clinical waste is any waste that poses a threat of infection to humans.

Examples of clinical waste include:

  • Human or animal tissue
  • Blood or other bodily fluids
  • Excretions
  • Drugs or other pharmaceutical products
  • Swabs or dressings
  • Syringes, needles or other sharp instruments.

Yellow sack collection

Removal of clinical waste from a domestic property is free via your NHS contact (eg doctor/district nurse). Please contact them for further details.

There is a charge for the removal of clinical waste from commercial organisations. The cost for collection and disposal for each yellow sack is £5.55.

Sharps containers (for needles and syringes)

Sharps containers from a domestic property must be returned to the doctor's surgery/hospital that provided them.

There is a charge for the removal of sharps containers from commercial organisations. You will be required to purchase a sharps container to commence collections at a cost of £1.83 and you will be charged the same for each replacement provided after collection. The cost for collection and disposal for each container is £5.55
