Agriculture and feeding stuffs

The composition and safety of animal feeding stuffs is fundamental to food safety and is paramount in the requirement to safeguard our own food "from plough to plate".

We make sure that fertilisers and feeding stuffs comply with legal requirements, in particular, compliance with the 1970 Agriculture Act. We check:

  • Quality
  • Composition
  • Labelling
  • Advertising
  • Presentation.

We can inspect and take samples of animal feed and raw materials used in animal feed throughout North Lincolnshire. This work has been particularly important following the banning of meat and bone meal in most animal feeds after the BSE outbreak.

EC Feed Hygiene Regulation 183/2005 - Local Register

Any business involved in the feed industry; from arable farms growing crops, those storing feed, right up to those feeding animals entering the food chain must register with the council's Trading Standards department. Guidance on this, and the appropriate application form are available to download below or by contacting Trading Standards.

The register is continually being updated and it is available for inspection by the general public at all reasonable times.

If you wish to view the register please contact the Trading Standards.

Officers also inspect and take samples of fertilisers manufactured and used in North Lincolnshire.
