Commercial signwritten vehicles, hire vehicles and commercial vehicles not displaying a valid permit can no longer use the Cottage Beck Road Household Recycling Centre in Scunthorpe. This is due to the ongoing misuse of the Household Recycling Centres by trade organisations.
For alternative disposal routes for trade waste, please use your local Yellow Pages or contact our site operaters SITA on 01724 878100.
Commercial vehicles are defined as follows:
"All forms of transport that are not private motor vehicles and will include any vehicle bearing a company logo, hire vehicles and vehicles over 3.5 tonnes mpw"
Why?
The council currently accepts twice as much waste at its Household Recycling Centres than at other similar councils. This is due to the excessive amounts of commercial waste regularly deposited at the sites by commercial organisations.
The sites are provided by the council for the exclusive use of local residents. Their council tax pays for the provision and maintenance of the sites.
Traders use the site to avoid paying disposal costs. This means that householders are paying for their profitable activities. This prevents the council from investing in other much needed local services. It cannot be allowed to continue.
What to do if you are a legitimate site user
There will be local householders who drive vans and larger vehicles to suit their needs. These people legitimately use the sites for the disposal of their excess household and garden waste. If you consider that you are a legitimate site user please contact the Customer Helpline on 01724 297000.
Householders wanting to dispose of household waste using a private van or commercial type vehicle are required to apply for a permit. Please see the following link for more information: Household Recycling Centre permits for commercial vehicles.
