The existing waste and recycling collections have been under way since March 2006. The alternate weekly collection scheme is operating among the majority of households. It involves a collection of a brown wheeled bin for organic waste one week and the collection of your general non recyclable waste wheeled bin the second week. This is supported by the collection of dry recyclables in kerbside boxes. From September 2007, householders will also have a burgundy bin for the collection of some plastics and cardboard. The council provides assisted collections for anyone who is infirm or has disabilities and cannot put their rubbish out at the normal place. A minority of people who live in flats will not be able to take part in the scheme just yet. This is because it is not practical to provide flats with the bins and boxes. But we are currently exploring ways for these properties to recycle more of their rubbish. We will keep those residents up to date with progress.
