What will happen to the existing North Lincolnshire Local Plan?

The existing North Lincolnshire Local Plan, adopted in May 2003, will be gradually replaced over the coming years. The policies contained in the new Development Plan Documents (DPDs) will replace the local plan policies.

There are arrangements in place for transferring from the old development plan system to the new one. These arrangements automatically save the existing local plan policies for three years (until September 2007). It may be possible to save some of the policies for a longer period of time if they are still relevant. This is possible with the Secretary of State's agreement.

The policies that the council intends to save are set out in Appendix 1 of the Local Development Scheme.

Therefore, the existing policies will still be used to help take planning decisions. Existing Supplementary Planning Guidance notes that relate to a saved policy will be retained. They will continue to be a material consideration in taking planning decisions.
