The Local Development Framework (LDF) offers a greater opportunity for you to get involved in helping to shape the future of your area.
A key part of the LDF system is the aim of achieving continuous community involvement throughout.
We are currently at the very start of the LDF process, so this is the best time for you to get involved. We need to gather contact details for those who want to take part, and information about what their interest in the process is. Also, we want to know how best to involve you.
So that we can tell you about the LDF and how you can participate, the council has produced a short 10-minute film presented by Geoff Druett. You can view it on this website or watch it at your Local Link office.
During the preparation stage for each document, there will be several formal opportunities for you to get involved. You will be able to comment on the contents of the documents. These opportunities are set out in the Local Development Scheme.
Statement of Community Involvement
As part of the process, the council has to produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). This document sets out how we intend to include you, and when you cantake part. Visit the Statement of Community Involvement page for more information.
How can I be kept up-to-date about progress of the LDF?
News of the progress of the LDF will be posted on this website on the LDF News Centre page.
It will also be in the local media and through Direct magazine. We can provide you with updates at important times during the LDF preparation process. We could do this by post or by e-mail.
Who will have the final decision on the Local Development Framework?
Once the LDF documents have been completed, we are required to send them to the Secretary of State (i.e. the Department for Communities and Local Government). It will then appoint an Independent planning inspector to hear any outstanding questions on each document.
When the inspector has heard each point of view, he/she will publish a report with recommendations for changes, where they are necessary. The council must act on these recommendations when producing the final version of the document.
