Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) for North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire
The SFRA will be used as guidance in influencing future Development Plan policies within the Local Development Framework (LDF). It will be used in the Development Control process in making decisions on planning applications. The SFRA includes a matrix which gives guidance on managing future flood risk with regard to different types of development.
The SFRA should be used as a starting point for progressing site specific flood risk assessments. It provides an overview of:
- The types of flooding which may be expected to occur in the area;
- The main sources of flooding both fluvial (flooding from rivers), and tidal (flooding from the sea); and
- The predicted influences of climate change.
The SFRA can be viewed in two ways:
- If you are unsure of the zone the development is in you can use our interactive SFRA mapping system
- Alternatively if you know the zone the development is in please view our SFRA and flood zones page
The SFRA is also available on interactive DVD to purchase for £50 or alternatively the document can be viewed at the council's Church Square offices in Scunthorpe.
The SFRA will shortly be reviewed to take account of new data which is to become available and to reflect the new Planning Policy Statement (PPS25). Until it is reviewed it is advised that the SFRA and PPS25 be used together for managing development and flood risk.
PPS25: Development and Flood Risk can be viewed on the Department of Communities and Local Government website.
This SFRA was prepared jointly by North and North East Lincolnshire Councils in co-operation with the Enviromental Agency (EA).
The SFRA was prepared in response to government advice on flooding and development, set out in Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) 25: Planning and Flooding and was approved by the EA in August 2006.
