Our vision of a sustainable North Lincolnshire
1. Consumer Choice
- Work to help consumers choose, use and dispose of products sustainably.
- Reduce overall consumption and buy local, seasonal produce wherever possible.
- Buy second-hand, hire or share.
- Buy recycled.
- Protect and promote the rights of consumers to product safety information and clear labeling.
2. The Natural Environment
- Value and protect nature in North Lincolnshire and avoid activities or policies, which may endanger species or their habitats in other parts of the world.
- Increase people's awareness and understanding of biodiversity.
3. Community Safety and Equality
- Promote a culture where people have the right to live their lives free of crime and free from the fear of crime, persecution and discrimination because of personal beliefs, race, age, gender, physical appearance or sexuality.
- Act and use influence to ensure that the people of North Lincolnshire have access to the basic human rights of nutritious food, water, shelter and fuel at a reasonable cost.
4. Health
- Strive for healthier living and working environments by creating, encouraging and enabling healthier choices to be easier choices. This needs to be done within people's everyday settings alongside promoting healthier lifestyles amongst individuals and groups.
- Address social and economic problems that may contribute to poor health, such as poverty, crime and fear of crime, homelessness, social exclusion and safety.
- Act to develop a healthy physical living environment, minimising pollution to our air, water, and land.
- Work together in recognition of both our individual and collective responsibility to aim for health for all and sustainable development.
5. Access and transport
- Ensure as far as possible, through relevant plans, policies and actions, that access to facilities, services, goods and other people in North Lincolnshire is not achieved at the expense of the environment, restricted to those who are able-bodied, or limited to those with cars.
- Encourage meeting local needs locally.
6. Lifelong learning, skills and knowledge
- Create access to the skills, knowledge and information to enable people to realise their full potential and play a full part in society.
- Make sure that opportunities for culture, leisure and recreation in North Lincolnshire are readily available to all.
- Create strong and diverse neighbourhoods through community led events, celebrations and projects.

- Protect and value diversity and local distinctiveness in North Lincolnshire's towns, villages and countryside.
- Encourage meeting local needs locally.

- Contribute to a diverse economy with opportunities for satisfying and fairly rewarded work.
- Encourage local purchasing, reduce the environmental impact of transportation and help to retain wealth locally.
- Use resources efficiently and responsibly, minimise the production of waste, and re-use and recycle wherever possible.
- Recognise the value of voluntary work.

- Promote the re-use of materials and products, and the purchase of recycled, second-hand, refillable and durable goods.
- Ensure that everyone has access to convenient recycling facilities.
- Promote the message that waste reduction is everyone's responsibility.
- Identify and minimise any pollution, measuring and monitoring the results.
10. Participation, democracy and empowerment
- Empower and encourage all sections of the community to participate in decision making.
- Listen to the needs and aspirations of the community.
- Encourage all sectors of society to be involved in the decisions, which impact on their neighbourhoods and quality of life.
- Enable a wider section of society to be involved in decision making both locally and nationally.
