Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

Every year exposure to hazardous substances at work affects the health of many thousands of people. The employer must protect workers and others who may be exposed to these substances.

Examples of common affects to health:

  • Lung disease, e.g. from dusty conditions;
  • Skin irritation, dermatitis or skin cancer, e.g. from frequent contact with oils;
  • Work-related asthma, e.g. from breathing in wood dust.
