Graffiti

The council aims to improve the environment by reducing the amount of graffiti.

It hopes to ensure that the area is thriving and that individuals can see an enhanced visual appearance of the area.

Written words, tags, and 'art' are usually put up without the consent of the wall/building/street furniture owner or occupier.

Graffiti may cause offence and generally target a minority audience to the detriment of the majority and the amenity of the area.

What can the council do?

The council has:

  • A dedicated graffiti removal team. Who use specialised equipment to remove graffiti
  • Officers who have the powers to investigate instances of graffiti. And can issue fixed penalty notices or prosecute offenders
  • An education officer, who works with schools, colleges and communities to reduce instances of graffiti.

If you have any concerns regarding graffiti in your area please contact us on 01724 297000 or by our graffiti report form.
