Registration of a food business

By law all premises used for a food business must be registered with the local council. This includes: market stalls, catering businesses run from home, delivery vehicles and mobile premises such as burger vans.

You need to register if:

  • You run a food business for five or more days in any five consecutive weeks
  • You use vehicles for your food business in connection with permanent premises such as a shop or warehouse. You do not need to register each vehicle separately
  • You are starting a new food business. You must register with the local council at least 28 days before opening the business
  • There is a change of proprietor or address. This should be done within 28 days of the change.

There is no charge for registering a food premises but failure to so is an offence.

Please contact the Food Safety team for more information or a registration form.
