Scores on the doors
Introducing a hygiene rating system for food businesses in North Lincolnshire.
What's the score?
North Lincolnshire Council has introduced the Scores on the Doors scheme, which is supported by the Food Standards Agency. This is to help you find out how well local food businesses are complying with food law.
Cafés, restaurants, takeaways, pubs, sandwich shops and other food businesses in this area will be given a certificate and sticker to display in their window or door to show their food hygiene rating as stars.
Why are we doing it?
On 10 November 2008 North Lincolnshire Council launched its own Scores on the Doors Scheme for members of the public to have access to food hygiene information in order for them to make informed choices as to where they may wish to shop or to eat out within North Lincolnshire.
What do the star ratings mean?
The table below describes what each star rating means.
How can I find out what star rating is given to a business?
Look in the window or door for a certificate or sticker. Or a list of food businesses and their scores can be viewed online on the Scores on the Doors website.
Do businesses have to display their rating?
No. Displaying the certificate is currently voluntary.
How will a food business get a star rating?
Following a food safety inspection, the officer will score the business based on a national scoring system endorsed by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The officers are trained in scoring under this scheme
Is this a national scheme?
No. The Food Standards Agency is considering a national scheme.
Scores on the Doors is supported by the FSA, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and Which?
What do I do if the business is not displaying a certificate or sticker?
There may be a perfectly good reason for this. The business may be 'awaiting inspection' or have been inspected and waiting for a certificate and sticker to be issued. If you are not sure, ask the business or check the website below.
