Flytipping surveillance

Big brother is watching you! That’s North Lincolnshire Council’s message to people who dump waste illegally in the area as covert surveillance equipment is brought into use.

The surveillance equipment has been installed in various locations across North Lincolnshire in a bid to reduce the number of flytipping incidents.

The cameras being used can identify car number plates from a distance of over half a mile and allow the culprits to be identified in low light conditions. The cameras have a self contained power source and can operate in the most remote locations for up to 30 days.

It is a criminal offence to dump rubbish and anyone caught could face a maximum fine of £50,000 and/or six months imprisonment.

Registered keepers of vehicles used for flytipping can be held responsible for the offence even if they themselves are not caught on camera. Vehicles involved in a flytipping incident can also be seized by the police.

If you would like more information about flytipping or wish to report what you may believe to be an offence, please contact the council on 01724 297000.
