Environmental Health

The council's Environmental Health Service protects, improves and promotes public health and the environment.

The service educates and persuades people to achieve compliance and improvements. However, the council can use its enforcement powers as a last resort. The council is responsible for:

Food safety:

• Ensuring the safety of food produced, sold and eaten in North Lincolnshire
• Protecting the public against food borne illness
• Ensuring the health, safety and welfare of people at work.

Environmental protection:

• Monitoring and improving air quality
• Regulating commercial processes that are potentially polluting
• Protecting the public against air pollution and contaminated land
• Preventing statutory nuisances from commercial premises.

Housing:

• Ensuring homes are legally fit to live in
• Ensuring empty and unfit homes are brought back in to use
• Ensuring homes meet people's needs and are safe and warm
• Ensuring people have access to affordable homes.

Public health:

• Provides the first point of contact for environmental health complaints from the public
• Responds to landlord and tenant issues including improving privately rented housing in disrepair
• Provides a comprehensive pest control service
• Prevents statutory nuisances from domestic premises including resolving problems with faulty drains and sewers and noise nuisance.
