Thornton Curtis Conservation Area Designation

The council is planning to designate a conservation area in the village of Thornton Curtis. A conservation area is a way of protecting important architectural and historical areas.

Conservation areas:

  • place additional controls on things like the demolition of buildings and erection of extensions
  • give additional protection to trees
  • can be used to control things like changes in window and door design, removal of walling and changing roof tiles.

The former Glanford Borough Council originally made the proposal to designate a conservation area in Thornton Curtis. North Lincolnshire Council is now moving this forward. It has commissioned an appraisal of the special character of the village. The appraisal concludes that the village has special architectural and historic interest and should be given the status of conservation area.

All homes in the parish will receive a letter from the council. It asks for residents’ comments on the proposed conservation area.

The appraisal document and plans can be accessed below. They are in Portable Document Format (PDF) and therefore require a suitable reader to view them. A reader can be downloaded free from the Adobe website (full instructions for downloading the reader are provided on the site).
